Collaborative Research Between Ui Geology And Untan Geophysics Reveals Biogenic Gas Potential In Wajok Hilir Village

A collaborative research initiative between the Geology Study Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) and the Geophysics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN) has provided new insights into the biogenic gas potential in West Kalimantan. The field research activities were conducted on 11–13 November 2025 in Wajok Hilir Village.

This collaborative research aimed to investigate the formation processes of biogenic gas through an integrated geological and geophysical approach. Various field activities were carried out, including shallow drilling, soil sampling, and observations of local geological and environmental conditions. The collected data are expected to provide preliminary insights into sediment characteristics and natural processes involved in biogenic gas formation.

Beyond scientific data collection, the activity also served as a platform for knowledge exchange and experience sharing among researchers from different institutions. The involvement of lecturers and researchers from both study programs strengthened scientific synergy and promoted the development of research based on the local potential of West Kalimantan.

Through this collaborative research, the Geophysics Study Program FMIPA UNTAN reaffirms its commitment to supporting applied research that addresses energy and environmental issues. The research outcomes are expected to serve as a foundation for further studies on the sustainable utilization of biogenic gas potential, while also strengthening national research collaboration between UNTAN and UI.
