Pontianak, Wednesday, March 12, 2025

A public lecture titled Keys to Success in Earth Exploration and Understanding was held in the Senate Room of FMIPA from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM WIB. The event featured Prof. A. Nanang T. Puspito as the keynote speaker and was attended by enthusiastic students eager to deepen their understanding of the role of geophysics in Earth exploration.

In his presentation, Prof. Nanang explained the critical stages in geophysics, from data acquisition, processing, and analysis to model creation and interpretation. He emphasized that a strong understanding of each of these stages is essential for a successful geophysicist.

Additionally, Prof. Nanang shared insights from strategic geophysical projects, such as Carbon Capture Storage (CCS), geothermal exploration, groundwater detection, and geophysical surveys for MRT infrastructure development. He highlighted the significant role of geophysics across various sectors, including energy, environment, and infrastructure.

Furthermore, Prof. Nanang underscored the competencies that future geophysicists must possess. He stressed the importance of mastering basic science, geophysical methods and surveys, scientific communication, and the ability to work both independently and in teams. Moreover, expertise in big data, environmental management, and project management were identified as crucial aspects in facing modern industry challenges.

Concluding the lecture, Prof. Nanang provided insights into the future of geophysics and how the younger generation can prepare themselves by integrating knowledge, skills, and integrity. With this preparation, students are expected to adapt and contribute to the advancement of geophysics in the digital era and Industry 4.0.

The public lecture received an enthusiastic response from the attending students. They not only gained valuable knowledge but also insights into the opportunities and challenges within the field of geophysics. With a strong foundation, students are expected to become skilled geophysicists ready to tackle global challenges.
