Peeking Beneath The Earth’s Surface Without Digging

Young Geophysics Lecturer Shares Insights in Expert Talk during the 24th FMIPA Anniversary and Faculty Open Day

Pontianak, 9 November 2025 — As part of the Faculty Open Day and the 24th Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Tanjungpura, the Geophysics Study Program actively participated by presenting an engaging session in the Expert Talk event held at the FMIPA Auditorium.

In this session, a young lecturer from the Geophysics Study Program delivered a talk titled “Peeking Beneath the Earth’s Surface Without Digging.” The presentation introduced how geophysical methods enable scientists to investigate subsurface structures using modern technology, such as seismic waves, resistivity, and magnetic field measurements — all without the need for direct excavation.

Through an interactive and insightful discussion, the audience learned about various applications of geophysics in real life, from natural resource exploration to disaster mitigation. The session inspired students to better appreciate the role of earth sciences in supporting innovation and sustainable development.

The participation of Geophysics lecturers in this event reflects FMIPA’s continuous commitment to fostering innovation, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration through academic and outreach activities.

With the overarching theme of Faculty Open Day and FMIPA’s 24th Anniversary, the event served as a platform for each study program to showcase its excellence and strengthen the academic community’s engagement in advancing science and technology. 🌍
